UAE elected member to the executive council of Arab Civil Aviation Commission

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was today elected to the executive council of Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC) and all its technical committees.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), was re-elected chairman of the ACAC’s executive council, during the general assembly meeting held in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, today.

Guest arrivals to the UAE Capital increased by 5% in February compared to the same period in 2011. Strong growth markets in terms of hotel guests include India, Germany and the Philippines; all of whom posted growth of more than 30%.

Significant hotel stock that came online in the last 12 months has helped visitors to Abu Dhabi take advantage of more affordable room rates. MICE activity such as the World Ophthalmology Congress coupled with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority’s (ADTCA) destination campaigns has further driven demand for visitors to Abu Dhabi.

The corporate website of  Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) and Abu Dhabi International Airport has been selected as Official Honourees of the 16th Annual Webby Awards. The websites has been recognised for Best Home Page and for Best Corporate Communications Categories. 

“The  Official Honorees” is awarded to the top 15% of all work entered that exhibits remarkable achievement including excellence of content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience. ADAC and Abu Dhabi International Airport’s websites were both named as “Official Honorees” for their outstanding accomplishments in the categories of Corporate Communication and Best Home Page respectively.

Passenger throughput at Abu Dhabi International Airport continued to grow by double digits in March with an impressive 21.6% increase compared to same month last year. Total number of passengers reached 1,195,610, making March 2012 the busiest March in airport history.

The continued developments from our home carrier Etihad Airways, alongside the new airlines that commenced so far this year – Air Berlin, Safi Airways and Air Seychelles, have all contributed to this impressive growth.

The Dh600 million water park will boast 43 rides.

Residents of the UAE will have a long wait this summer as the highly anticipated Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi will open its doors only in the fourth quarter of 2012.
 
The estimated Dh606 million water park, which is a part of Abu Dhabi’s real estate development and management company Aldar, will be introduced at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, which opens on Monday 30/04/12. 
 
Yas Waterworld will boast 43 rides, slides and attractions that follow the adventures of the waterpark’s main character Dana, a young Emirati girl in search of a legendary pearl which brought prosperity to the people of her village.
 
Also new for ATM 2012 is the agreement between Aldar and Viceroy Hotel Group for the management of what is now Yas Viceroy Hotel.
 
The hotel, the group’s first hotel outside North America, has welcomed high-level government meetings, awards ceremonies and corporate conferences.
 
Meanwhile, Yas Mall, a super regional mall, is set for completion in the third quarter of 2013.
 
Mohamed Al Mubarak, Deputy CEO, Aldar Properties, said: “The introduction of the luxury hotel brand Viceroy to the Middle East, the recognition that continues to be given to Yas Links from the global golfing community, the growing list of superstars to perform here, it all adds up to another exciting and successful year in the life of Yas Island.’
 
He added: “We are particularly excited about the newest member of the Yas Island family. Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi will provide an important addition to the attractions  on offer.”
